Good luck and drive safely!
Text and photo: Stefan HanssonYou never really know what you have around the corner before people ask you to show them. We all have a tendency of saying: “No, there is nothing special with this”. Then suddenly you seem to remember things and places you normally do not pay any attention. Maybe quite ordinary to you, but of great interest for the visitor. Maybe you need this kick in the butt to appreciate what you have! John and Eileen left for Finland and Russia yesterday, we had to say goodbye, but we hope that they have had a good time with us and that they are happy with what they have seen and experienced. In the very last early morning together we had a really nice trip in the forests and we managed to top it off with some very good photos. In fact, the whole week has been to our advantage – with a bonus here and there! Like when we found the fox cubs or when John and Eileen found the black throated diver.
On the other side of the railway, under a neighbours barn there is a litter of five or six cubs. They are not easily counted because they are very lively and they run in and out all the time. Nevertheless we succeeded in taking many nice photos of them. Of course this will provide us with the chance of watching them grow during the summer and maybe also add new photos to our private portfolio.
We are also waiting for the beaver pups (cubs?) to show themselves outside the lodge. The female beavers give birth to their young in June so we are expecting them any day now. For the time being you will have to settle with a photo of papa beaver – and of course a mix of other creatures, most of them photographed this week. Furthermore; we will try to carry on giving short reports in English every week as long as the bird season lasts.
We have had a very nice time with John and Eileen – and they even helped me plant the potatoes! There were many early mornings and late evenings, but as John puts it: “you are not likely to see anything if you stay in bed all morning”. Some evenings have been shortened though. We have had many nice dinners during their stay, among other hazel hen and for desert ice cream with cloud berry jam. Products of our household, products we are proud of having. Both the spring and summer season with all the animals and birds, are parts of our lives, and the same goes for the shooting season; there is a time for everything.
